ANGIOGUARD RX
The Angioguard RX emboli capture guidewire is a steerable guidewire available
in several filter basket diameters. The basket consists of a thin porous
polyurethane membrane with 100 µm pores, supported by a fine metal
skeleton with eight nitinol struts. Four of these struts have a radiopaque
marker to facilitate the visualization of the filter during the procedure.
Once the lesion is crossed by the guidewire, the filter basket is expanded -
umbrella-like - in the vessel lumen, collecting emboli.
To prevent injury to the vessel intimal layer, the distal end of the device is
equipped with an atraumatic flexible tip (3.5 cm).
The filter is available in different diameters ranging between 4 and 8 mm; it is
pre-loaded in a catheter with a very low crossing profile (3.2Fr. for 4 mm, 3.4F
for 5mm, 3.6F for 6mm, 3.8F for 7mm and 4Fr. for 8mm).
At the end of the procedure the filter is only partially encapsulated into the
retrieval catheter (5.1 Fr) to reduce the possibility that the plaque debris -
captured by the filter - may squeeze into the ICA lumen.
