Plinio Rossi M.D

Lars Lönn M.D

The idea of having a web site entirely devoted to carotid pathology was conceived by Fabrizio Fanelli M.D. and some collaborators united in the strong desire to make this endovascular technique more popular and widespread.
Carotidworld project - whose educational target is the diffusion of carotid stenting techniques that are under constant evolution - is exclusively intended for physicians with a large or little experience in the vascular field and for anyone else involved in this demanding medical specialty.

Prof. Plinio Rossi is one of the "founding fathers" of Interventional Radiology

He took his Medical degree (110/110) in 1952.
After getting his professional qualification he began to work as a voluntary assistant first at the University of Florence (1st Chair of Special Surgery Pathology) and then at the Dono Svizzero Hospital in Formia (Italy).
In 1954 he moved to the USA where he entered the post-graduate School of Radiology and specialized in 1959.
In that year he started to work as a radiologist at the St.Vincent 's Hospital in New York where he held the position of Vascular Radiologist until 1971.
In the same period he was also Clinical Professor at Cornell University.
During the seventeen years spent in the States he distinguished himself as a pioneer in the field of cardiovascular and interventional Radiology taking several honorary appointments (such as Fellow of the American College of Radiology) and carrying on a very intensive didactic activity as Visiting Professor in different American universities.

Back in Italy in 1971 he brought home his professional and didactic experience and took the title of Professor of Radiology at the University of Milan where he worked from 1987 until 1991.
From 1991 until 2001 he was Full Professor of the Third Radiological Chair at "Sapienza" University of Rome.
The high, valuable experience acquired in the USA has allowed him to teach new methods of Vascular Radiology and to develop new techniques of Interventional Radiology where therapeutic procedures are performed by a radiologist.
He has been the author of over four hundred scientific works and has organized, under the name of CARVAT, thirteen training courses of Radiology regularly attended by the most celebrated European, American and Japanese radiologists.
His active participation as a guest in innumerable international congresses (more than 750) has made him the true representative of the Italian Radiology abroad. He is founder member of SIRM (Italian Society of Medical Radiology), of CIRSE ( European Society of vascular and Interventional Radiology), of SIR (American Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology) and of ESGAR (Society of European Gastroenterology).
He writes for several important international magazines such as Radiology, New England Journal of Medicine, European Radiology, JVIR, Investigative Radiology, CVIR, and others.
He has been honorary member of SIRM since 1982.
He is honorary member of the French, Belgian, Turkish, Costa Rican, Japanese and German Societies of Radiology and member of the leading national and international Radiological Societies. The most important international Scientific Societies have awarded him several gold medals of merit:
Boris Rasdzesky medal (1986) awarded by EAR (European Association of Radiology)

Gold Medal (1994) awarded by the Foyer des Artistes
Gold Medal (1998) awarded at ESGAR Congress (Marbella, Spain)
Gold Medal (1999) awarded at ECR Congress (Vienna)
Gold Medal (1999) awarded by the Western Angiographic & Interventional Society
Gold Medal (1999) awarded by JSAIR (Osaka)
Gold Medal (2000) awarded at CIRSE Congress (Maastricht)
Gold Medal (2006) awarded at SIR Congress (Toronto)
