GORE NEURO PROTECTION SYSTEM

The system is designed to obtain a retrograde blood flow at the level of the ICA.
The Gore neuroprotection system is composed of three elements: a balloon sheath with dilator, a balloon wire and an external filter.
The balloon sheath consists of a dual lumen catheter shaft with a compliant balloon mounted on the distal tip.
The balloon sheath (9 Fr sheath compatible outer diameter, 7.3 Fr inner diameter) is placed at the level of the CCA where an occlusion balloon is inflated.
The balloon wire (0.0185" outer diameter) is a compliant balloon mounted on a hypotube shaft with a flexible distal section transitioning to a soft floppy tip.
The balloon is deployed at the level of the transition and is inflated at the origin of the ECA to avoid blood flow passage from ECA to ICA and to obtain ICA flow inversion.
The proximal hub of the balloon catheter is connected to a 6 Fr/10 cm introducer sheath placed on the controlateral femoral vein and as a consequence of the pressure gradient between the ICA and the femoral vein a continuous blood flow is maintained.
A special filter placed at the level of the arterial-venous shunt prevents debris passage into the venous system.
