SPIDER FX

The Spider FX™ embolic protection device is a percutaneously delivered protection system designed to capture and remove dislodged debris during CAS procedure.
The system contains three components: a capture wire, a dual-ended catheter and an exit collar.
The capture wire is composed of a nitinol mesh filter with a distal floppy tip (1.2 cm) mounted on a convertible 190/320 cm PTFE-coated 0.014" stainless steel wire.
The wire is scored so as to be snapped at 190 cm of usable length for a rapid exchange system.
The filter presents pores ranging from 50 to 200 µm and features a heparin coating designed to maintain patency during CAS.
The basket is attached to a gold radiopaque ring.
To give the filter a better stability during the procedure, the wire can move with an excursion of some millimetres through the basket that, instead, is firm inside the vessel lumen.
A clasp at the entrance of this device ensures the opened filter a better wall apposition.
Two radiopaque markers are placed at both ends of the filter for a better visualization.
The dual-ended Spider Fx catheter is used to exchange the primary access guidewire with the capture wire, to deploy the filter in the desired position and to recover the filter at the end of the procedure.
The delivery end (green), 0.040" (1.02 mm) in diameter, has an embedded radiopaque marker at the distal tip, a clear segment and a capture wire exit port.
The recovery end (blue) with a diameter of 4.2 Fr for 3-4-5 mm filters and 4.9 Fr for 6 and 7 mm filters, presents an embedded radiopaque marker at its distal tip and a capture wire exit port.
Either an introducer sheath or a guiding catheter with a minimum 0.066" I.D. is required to correctly advance the entire system and reach the desired position.
The primary role of the exit collar is to facilitate the introduction of the system into the guiding catheter or the introducer sheath avoiding damagesto the floppy tip of the wire.
The filter must be deployed at least 1.5 cm distal to the distal edge of the lesion.
